How To Knit A Faux Cabled Headband

Faux Cabled Knit Headband

Thank you for checking out my first published knitting pattern. This headband is quick to work up and uses less than a half a skein of yarn.I love how the pattern looks like complicated cables, but is really just made by passing slipped stitches and yarn overs. I would say this pattern is intermediate because of the stitches, but honestly I think a beginner could work this up.

Difficulty:

Intermediate

Materials Needed:

5.5 mm needles
1 skein, Knit Picks Gloss DK in Clarity or 80-90 yards of dk weight yarn scissors

needle

Stitches Used:

K=knit

p=purl

Yo= yarn over

Additional Terms

psso= passed slipped stitch over

Gauge:

24 rows=4 inches

Additional Notes:

This is worked flat. Before seaming, I recommend blocking. The headband can be altered to make it smaller or larger by working fewer or more rows, until you get the desired length The finished measurement should be 1 and half inches shorter than actual measurement of head to allow for stretching.

Pattern:

cast on 17 stitches.

Row 1: *p 2, k3. Repeat from * to the last 2 stitches. P2.

Row 2: *k2, p3. Repeat from * to the last 2 stitches. K2.

Row 3: *p2, slip one stitch purlwise, k2, psso the two knit stitches. Repeat from * across to the last 2 stitches. P2.

Row 4: *k2, p, yo, p. Repeat from * across to the last 2 stitches. K2. Repeat rows 1 through 4 for the stitch pattern.

Work this pattern until the strip measures 18 ½ inches long. Cast off. Steam block the piece or block using your favorite method. Once it has finished blocking, seam the two ends together with either the mattress stitch or whip stitch.

I hope you enjoyed this free pattern. Thank you for stopping by!
